The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Laboratory for Contaminants Exposure and Health was offically approved by Department of Science and Technology of the Guangdong Province in 2020 with the construction period from July 2020 to June 2023.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Laboratory for Contaminants Exposure and Health (hereinafter referred to as laboratory) supported by Guangdong University of Technology was approved for construction in November 2020 which was through joint cooperation with those playing an important role in the fight against COVID-19 in 2020, southern medical university, Hong Kong Baptist university, macau university, macau university of science and technology and Guangzhou ZIKE Science and Technology Co., Ltd and so on. In addition, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Laboratory has created three world’s leading, domestic first-class and original innovation ability of environmental pollution and health research team, build high-level talents and technical services of environmental science and health discipline research and application transformation platform, focus on serving the construction of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area International Science and Technology Innovation Center.
Currently, the laboratory has about 100 full-time staff while there are 19 national-level talentsincluding 1 Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 6 national science fund for distinguished young scholar, 5 Ministry of Education high-level distinguished Professors, 3 National high-level talents, 5 National "Four Youth"; as well as about 20 provincial level talents including Guangdong Provincial Special Support Program Talent, Pearl River Special hire/youth, Leader of Guangdong Innovation team, Provincial leading talents andOutstanding Youth of Guangdong Province; 4 part-time professors (including1overseasacademician and 2 Pearl River Scholars Chair Professors), 1 guest professor (Introduction by the national major talent projects).
The main research content of the laboratory is toestablish a comprehensive assessment system suitable for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for environmental pollutant traceability, environmental ecological effects, population exposure pathways, health risks and markersthrough the integration of environmental science and Public health science. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Laboratory for Contaminants Exposure and Healthwill focus on the following four directions in the next three years:
1. Pollutant source analysis andhealth risk assessment in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay Area
(1)Emission characteristics and intensity of contaminants
(2)Undefinedysis of typical sources of contaminants
(3)Health risk assessment of contaminants
2. Migration, transformation, return and environmental ecological effects of typical pollutants
(1)Migration, transformation and interface process of pollutants in the environment
(2)Bioaccumulation of pollutants and food chain transfer
(3)Environmental ecological effects and ecological risks of pollutants
3. Database of Internal and external exposure to contaminants
(1)Multi-channel and multi-path exposure of pollutants
(2)Human compound exposure and metabolic transformation mechanism of pollutants
(3)Metabolomics characteristics and database construction of composite exposurein typical regions
4. Application and early warning of effect and molecular markers in population health risk
(1)Application of composite exposure effect and molecular markers in typical regions
(2)Relationship between environmental compound exposure and human health effect
(3)Early warning and control of health risks in environmental regions
