Key Laboratory of City Cluster Environmental Safety and Green Development (Guangdong University of Technology), Ministry of Education (Hereinafter referred to as the Laboratory), which is supported by Guangdong University of Technology, was officially approved by the Ministry of Education in December 2019. Facing the major demands of urban environmental safety and green development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Laboratory comprehensively analyzed the new situation and problems of medium - and long-term environmental protection in the Greater Bay Area from fundamental, forward-looking, strategic and guiding perspectives. Guided by sustainable development, such as resource and environmental carrying capacity, environmental quality, environmental risk and ecological security, to explore the focus of ecological civilization construction and environmental policy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area under the new historical mission, and formulate medium - and long-term environmental quality improvement and coordinated green development strategy for the government of the Greater Bay Area to provide scientific and technological support to build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a world-class city cluster with developed economy, ecological civilization, green, livable, suitable for business and tourism.
The laboratory has formed an academic team with reasonable structure, balanced levels and outstanding advantages. Currently, among the full-time staff there are 19 national-level talents including 1 academician, 3 national science fund for distinguished young scholar, 2 head of the Ministry of Education high-level personnel, 4 national high-level personnel innovation talents of science and technology, 3 outstanding youth of national Natural science foundation of China, 5 head of the national young high-level talent,1 high-level young talent of the Ministry of Education. There are about 10 provincial level talents including Outstanding talents in Guangdong Provincial innovative research team, Guangdong Provincial Special Support Program Talent, The pearl river scholar and Outstanding Youth of Guangdong Province. At present, the laboratory has more than 6000 m2 of experimental sites and scientific research bases, and more than 90 sets of scientific research instruments and equipment, with a total value of about 100 million yuan, which are engaged in urban (group) metabolism, environmental behavior and health effects of pollutants, environmental process and ecological security of water system, and collaborative green development control.
